If you are a new Australian member wishing to get started with Sheep Genetics, please fill out a subscription form submit.
If you are an unregistered flock then please complete this flock code request form and we will allocate a code that you will need prior to completing the subscription form.
Sheep Genetics is a not for profit service operating for the benefit of Australian sheep producers. However, Sheep Genetics budgets have been prepared using the principle that the delivery of genetic information that benefits individual producers should be paid for in full by the users.
Industry has settled upon an annual subscription fee per flock plus a fee per animal entered into the database. An animal achieves billable status when it has a weaning trait information or after entered into the database (LAMBPLAN) or post weaning trait measurements or after (MERINOSELECT). This means that once an animal is entered into the database, data can continue to be entered on that animal throughout its life at no additional cost.
The fees outlined below cover the Sheep Genetics analysis and reporting of data. The cost of measurement and collection of data is additional and external to Sheep Genetics.
Table 1: Sheep Genetics Australian fee schedule
Charges | FY25 |
Annual Flock subscription | $583.00 |
Additional annual flock subscription | $165.00 |
Animal data charge | $2.81 |
Sheep Genetics will be implementing an additional fee that will contribute directly to the costs associated with running the Resource Flock for the next 2 joining's. This additional fee will ensure that Resource Flock data will continue to underpin the Sheep Genetics evaluations for the next 2 years’ worth of joining’s. This charge will be applied at the commencement/renewal of your Sheep Genetics subscription.
The Resource Flock is an important source of information and research & development behind the Sheep Genetics evaluation. The data from the MLA Resource Flock has seen improvement in linkage, the size of the genomic reference, the development of ASBVs for hard to measure traits and improved accuracy from genomic predictions. The benefits of the Resource Flock are seen across the Sheep Genetics evaluation and impacts each flock in the evaluation that records and submits phenotypes and/or genotypes.
Table 2: Resource Flock fee
Contribution | FY25 |
Primary Flock fee | $220.00 |
Additional flock fee | $165.00 |
Once you have subscribed you are able to submit data to Sheep Genetics. For more information, visit the Data submission process page.
